A Little About Us
Welcome to Abigails Beautiful Memorials, we are a small family run business that was set up in memory of our beautiful Daughter Abigail who was still born in 2003.
Why settle for the same old boring grave memorials, mass produced in a land far away, made from resin that’s brittle, hollow & breaks at the slightest knock? Looking for something truly beautiful, unique and stands the test of time? Then read on or take a look through our shop and be prepared to be amazed!
In The Beginning
On a quest to find something special for Abigails 8th Birthday I came across a large teddy bear memorial from the local garden centre that was very cute but needed a little beautifying which I did superbly by adding a little ribbon and other embellishments, it looked pretty good, I was that impressed with the results so Christmas of 2011 I bought a few more and listed them on my ebay just as beautiful but with a real Santa hat and Jingle bells and within an hour made my first sale! For a new listing to make a sale within an hour is quite astounding but I made 3 that day, Over Christmas I sold over 30, my entire local garden centre stock, it was not so much the sales as I hardly made any profit after selling fees and purchasing the teddies and bits and bats to finish them off, but the lovely feedback meant the world to me and still does, after all a little bit of my Daughter goes in to every item I make!
But they was still something missing, it was just the boring gray teddy that you can buy from a thousand different places I wanted something that would stand out in pride of place on my Daughters grave as she deserved the best! One look around the cemetery and you see the same boring memorials time and time again now I wanted something a little different it needed a little wow factor something very special indeed!
On A Mission
In the summer of 2012 I bought a latex mould and set to work, did a little research and a lot of trial and error, most grave memorials are made from resin which are hollow and very brittle one knock and its in pieces I have also seen them literally turn to dust after a cold winter when the frost has done its work so I decided on stone, using 100% Portland cement giving me the smoothest possible results while at the same time exceptionally strong and a lot heavier than a hollow resin grave memorial so it wont get blown away, through my past experiences purchasing various items for my daughters grave I knew exactly what requirements were needed for the item to last.
To help combat the frost I added a little plasticiser additive to the cement mix and each item has several layers of paint stopping the absorption of water, as its the constant expanding of moisture in any cement or stone/concrete item that freezes that courses it to crack. I only use the best quality Portland cement which is also designed to be frost resistant, I dont believe in offering sub standard products, after all we are talking beautiful not a beautiful pile of dust when the winter has finished!
Each item is hand painted, I did tried spraying them but I got a much better finish painting them by hand It does take a lot longer but the end results make it worth it, Now to make it unique and stand out from the rest with a dusting of glitter spray and with several layers of lacquer to seal it all in giving it a high gloss sparkly finish, finally I had come up with the beautification that I was looking for and Abigails Beautiful Memorials was born!!
